Quote:"can you have the strap repaired?" I ask.
"In America we don't repair things," Mrs. Goldstein explains. "if something breaks, you buy a new one"
"Are there no shoe-repair shops here?"
"repair shops are rare, and repair work is expensive its sometimes cheaper to buy a new one pair of shoes. Or anything else, for the matter.
I can totally understand how Elli is feeling on these situation. Since I am an immigrant. I felt the same thing as she did but in other cases. I couldn't believe that America was like that but as time passed I started to deal with it and I got ustood it. I think Elli feels like America is about easy going, life. by that I mean like everything is easy to get and she doesn't have as many rules as her other country.
I think Elli is a really smart girl, who really wants the best for her future and her family. she seems like she was raised as a hard worker and she likes to fight for what she wants.
Question Number 1
How do you think that Elli feels, about what Mrs. Goldstain told her about getting new shoes and throwing her old ones away?
